Other research also seems to support the efficacy of hypnosis to stop smoking.

Another analysis of 59 studies concludes that, while quit smoking hypnosis may have some benefits, it is by no means the be-all and end-all stop smoking method.

However, results of this analysis show that smokers who underwent stop smoking hypnosis fared better in terms of abstaining from smoking than did smokers who had no intervention. However, it was difficult to determine whether hypnotherapy had any benefit above and beyond other treatments.

Giving hypnotherapy the stamp of a mainstream, well-established treatment for smoking cessation therefore may still be premature. The key problem in determining the effectiveness of hypnosis quit smoking treatment is a lack of a standard way to conduct quit smoking hypnotherapy.

Across the studies, stop smoking hypnosis treatments varied in the types of questions that were asked, the number of treatments each subject underwent, and the inclusion of other smoking cessation treatments.
